Roadmap

What's coming to Tuxery, by theme — the parts you'll notice on the site. Nothing here has a date: priorities follow what people actually need.

Better data

  • More sources, and fuller ones: Flathub's beta branch, every Snap channel, the stable releases of openSUSE (Leap), Nixpkgs and Slackware, AppImageHub. Each is listed on the per-source to-do.
  • Fewer apps left "To Classify", and categories split more finely (messaging and social apps apart from browsers and email; apps for kids).
  • Spotting distribution packages that differ from the official build, and outdated versions.

More useful app pages

  • Technical details: runtime, architectures, download and installed size.
  • A safety summary for sandboxed apps (Flatpak permissions).
  • The install method the app's own developers recommend.
  • Alternatives: other apps that do the same job.

Taking part

  • Flagging a wrong merge or proposing one from the site.
  • Submitting an app or game, and a way for developers to claim their app's page.
  • Votes, to surface apps no source ranks.
  • Creator pages for anyone who wants to share the apps they use.
  • A personal space to keep your filters and follow your installs.

Open data

  • The merged catalog as a download, then a public API — see open data.

How it's tracked

All of this, and the rest of Tuxery's planned work, is tracked in the open as cards on the Tuxery GitHub Project — features, data fixes and technical chores alike. There is no separate, private list.

Reading the board

Each card sits in one column:

StatusMeans
BacklogAn idea or a known gap, written down so it isn't forgotten.
TodoDecided, and next in line.
In ProgressSomeone is working on it now.
DoneShipped — see the changelog.

The Codebase field says where the work happens: app (this site), catalog (the data pipeline), or both. Many cards are internal (database quotas, CI); the themes above are the ones you'll notice on the site.

Weigh in

Want something moved up, or missing from the list? Open an issue on the app or catalog repository, or comment on an existing one. Real use cases are what decide priorities.
