Accessibility

Tuxery should be usable by everyone, whatever the way they browse: with a keyboard, a screen reader, a magnifier, high contrast or reduced motion. This page says where the site stands today, honestly.

Target

WCAG 2.1 level AA, in both the light and the dark theme.

Current status: partially conformant. Some parts of the site don't meet the target yet; they are listed below.

What was checked

Audit of 9 October 2026, on the homepage, search results, an app page (Firefox), the apps, games and categories pages, settings, a store page, a creator page and the docs pages:

  • Automated checks with axe-core (WCAG 2.0/2.1 A and AA rules, plus best practices), in the light and dark themes, at desktop and phone widths.
  • Keyboard navigation: every link, button and menu reached with Tab, in a logical order, with a visible focus indicator.
  • Screen reader labels: icon-only buttons (menu, settings, account, close) have a text label; lists such as the catalog pipeline are real lists; pages have one h1 and landmarks (header, navigation, main, footer).
  • Reduced motion: smooth scrolling is turned off when your system asks for less motion.

Fixed during this audit: menu items had no visible keyboard focus; the inert account button and footer headings used invalid markup.

Fixed since: color contrast. Links, secondary text, the green "Verified" badges, section and table headings were below the 4.5:1 ratio WCAG AA asks for normal text. The light theme's blue and green are now deeper, secondary text is never fainter than 70% of the text color, and the automated checks report no contrast issue in either theme, background photo included (re-checked 9 October 2026, 18 pages).

Fixed since: the screenshot row on app pages couldn't be reached from the keyboard; each screenshot is now a button opening a full-size viewer (arrow keys to browse, Escape to close).

Known gaps

  • Accessible names that differ from the visible text on category tiles, a homepage call to action, and the Edition/Version pickers of an app page: a voice-control user saying the visible label may not reach them.
  • Headings skip a level in search results.
  • Not checked yet: a full manual test with screen readers (Orca, NVDA, VoiceOver), 200% zoom and text spacing, Windows high-contrast mode, and the install drawer's focus handling.

These are tracked as work to do; this page will be updated as they are fixed.

Report a problem

If something on Tuxery is hard or impossible for you to use, please tell us — it is a bug, and a priority one. Open an issue on the app repository describing the page, what you tried to do and what assistive technology you use, if any. Data problems (an app's description or screenshots) go to the catalog repository.

In France, an accessibility statement following the RGAA is required of public bodies and large companies. Tuxery is neither: this statement is voluntary, written because it is good practice and because we want to know where we stand.
